Municipality of Vänersborg

Vänersborg is the regional capital of Västra Götaland in Sweden, situated at the southernmost tip of Lake Vänern. With its 39 000 inhabitants, it is small enough to retain its small-town charm, but big enough to have plenty to offer. The municipality have 3500 employees with schools, elderly care, health care, public housing, roads and technical service, physical planning. Vänersborg is working with new and old refugees for the integration process as foreseen by the Swedish law.

Restad Gård which is the largest accommodation and training center for asylum seekers, in Sweden and is located in Vänersborg. Restad Gård offer a variety of activities with focus on language training. There are almost 2000 asylum seekers living at Restad Gård right now.

In 2016, Vänersborg municipality received 466 refugees and in 2017 the municipality received 244 refugees.

Vänersborg Municipality has a refugee reception where the goal is to build on the fundamental values of all humans equal rights and opportunities to live and participate in the municipality regardless of ones ethnic or cultural background. Diversity must be seen as a strength and contribute to develop and improve Vänersborg. The vision is to offer information, support and guidance to ease the way to establishment to the Swedish society.

Vänersborg municipality also cooperates with NGO’s, like the Red Cross, Support Group Network, Save the children, Churches and others to help refugees.
